ESTABLISHMENT,  AWARENESS, SENSITIZATION  AND INAUGURATION OF YOUNG Environmentalists (YEs) CLUB AT ST. LOUIS INCLUSIVE SCHOOL, IKOT EKPENE.

On 7th March, Safe Space Development Foundation (SHADEF) conducted a Hand-on-desk awareness program at ST. LOUIS INCLUSIVE SCHOOL, IKOT EKPENE, focusing on climate change education and the establishment of the Young Environmentalists Club (YEs) Club. The initiative aimed to sensitize the students living with disability on environmental issues and how they can help curb the effect.

Upon arrival, the team from SHADEF, led by Director Comrade Evelyn Eyo, was warmly received by the School Administrator …………………………………., and other  teaching staffs of the school.

Comrade Evelyn Eyo delivered an insightful session on the use of plastics and climate change, emphasizing the importance of environmental stewardship and climate justice. She made emphasis on  the impact of climate change and also spoke on the correct and proper use of plastics to include Reusing, Reducing and Recycling plastics to have less plastics in our environment and subsequently doing away with plastics in our environment.

 There was a session of engaging discussion with the students demonstrating their eagerness to know more about plastics and showing their active participation during the session.

 As part of the intervention for a sustainable initiatives and an environment free from plastics waste, SHADEF  established the Young Environmentalist Club to be an agent of Change in the environment.

 Mr. Nehemiah……………., assumed leadership as the Head of the YEs Club, with a dedicated team of student executives appointed to oversee it’s activities. Club meetings are scheduled to take place on the first Friday of every month, featuring hands-on projects and educational sessions.

In summary, the event concluded with expressions of gratitude and vote of thanks from one of the student, Etimbuk Moses for the successful awareness and Sensitization Program. The initiative not only equipped students with valuable knowledge but also empowered them to become proactive agents of change in environmental conservation efforts. The intervention at  ST. LOUIS INCLUSIVE SCHOOL, IKOT EKPENE, marked a significant step towards fostering environmental awareness and action among students living with disabilities assuring to bridge the Gap and bringing together people living with disabilities in sustainability development.
